December 2020
Fellow Chicagoland Baptists,
2020 has shown how broken our world is. What an amazing message of hope that God has personally entered this mess in order to bring redemption. May you find encouragement from this truth and find ways to share it with others this Christmas season!
For example, Starting Point Community Church is doing “Project Joy,” which is bringing Christmas gifts to a record number of 118 kids that live near them in Bel-Cragin. Pray that these connections would result in open doors for discipleship with those families and for other efforts like this.
We will have our regular Wednesday morning prayer time next week (12/16), but take the following two weeks off for the holidays. On the first Wednesday of next month (1/6) our topic of discussion will be Latin American theology led by Jonathan from Starting Point!
We’re looking forward to 2021 with you!
Here’s someone to know about – Pastor Daniel Chung. Daniel moved to Chicago in 2011 to help plant Church of the Beloved. In 2015, he and a core group of about 20 people planted Beloved Community Church on Chicago’s Near West Side. The church has been home to many young professionals and students, particularly those studying medicine. COVID-19 has allowed them to become more of a ministering presence to the neighborhood and church community, reallocating funds to provide financial relief to those who lost jobs or have struggled financially during this time. The church is currently meeting via Zoom due to the pandemic. Please pray that God will lead them to a more permanent meeting location near the UIC neighborhood. Daniel & his wife, Kate, have a son, Benjamin (age 3), and a daughter, Laura Grace (age 1). Feel free to connect with Daniel at daniel@belovedcommunity.church.
Here are some events to know about –
If you or your church treasurer has any questions about how to structure a pastoral compensation package that is tax savvy, there’s an Online Tax Seminar on January 14. Email LindaDarden@ibsa.org for more info and to register.
The Illinois Leadership Summit will be held this year online and at a local Chicagoland hub. Register here and mark your calendars for January 19 in the evening and January 20 in the morning. We’ll send out more details about location and session topics very soon!
Here’s something else to know about – As result of cooperating with IBSA your church can get an annual membership with Alliance Defending Freedom for just $125. Use code: IBSA125 to sign up and you’ll get a free legal review of all your church documents, free access to legal advice for anything religious liberty related, and free representation if needed.
