January 2022
Chicagoland Baptists,
We are praying that our fellowship and kingdom collaboration continues to grow in 2022. We’re planning more get-togethers and ways to share resources. If you want to see a Directory of all the Chicagoland Baptist churches and help us keep it up-to-date, check it out here.
For example, Lighthouse Church in Frankfort is in need of pulpit supply and an interim pastor. Have any leads?
Here is someone to know about – Pastor Sean Stevenson. Sean and his wife Lydia have been married for 31 years. Sean was born and raised in New Mexico; Lydia in Arkansas. Sean was saved and baptized at the age of 16. Sean and Lydia met at a Christian summer camp during college and were married a year and a half later. They have three grown daughters. Sean is a graduate of Belmont University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Lydia went to Ouachita Baptist University. During seminary, Sean and Lydia were involved in three church planting efforts. After graduating from seminary, they were commissioned by the North American Mission Board to start a church in Ohio. In 2002, they were commissioned by the International Mission Board and served for 8 years as missionaries in the country of Poland. Their family moved to Bozeman, Montana, in March of 2011 to start Crossroads Church. In February of 2018 Pastor Sean accepted the call to pastor Elmwood Park Community Church here in Chicagoland. They have re-planted the church and led it to affiliate with IBSA and have seen the Lord breathing new life into that congregation. Sean loves to hike, play guitar, and cook; Lydia loves to help people, especially struggling learners. Together, they love to travel. Sean and Lydia are passionate about seeing people grow and mature in their faith and seeing healthy churches serve the Lord in their communities. If anything about his story intrigues or encourages you, reach out – sean.s@epcommunitychurch.org.
Here are some events to know about –
The new semester for Edge Training starts 2/7. Check out the online courses being offered here. Bryan will be teaching “Leading Through Preaching” again!
Have youth that would like to get away for a Winter Retreat? Check out the D-Now event being held at Streator Baptist Camp 2/18-19. More info here.
The CMBA Women’s Conference – “Thriving in a New Normal” – is coming up on 3/5 at Harmony Community Church in Chicago. Contact Mindy Cobb for more info and to register. The IBSA Priority Women’s Conference is 4/29-30. More info here.
Mark your calendars for a Chicago Camp at Streator 7/28-30 that is being put on by Chicagoland Baptists for Chicagoland Baptists. If you have any youth and are interested, let us know!
Here’s something else to know about – Since 1983 the Baptist Foundation of Illinois has been offering financial services with a kingdom vision. Check out all they do here. But we wanted to highlight two things:
(1) If you or your church has money in a savings account getting less than 1% interest, contact Doug or Ken! You can be getting a much higher rate of return through BFI and your money can be put to use for ministry at the same time!
(2) If you know a college or seminary student in need of a scholarship, have them apply here by 1/31.
Reach out if there’s any way we can serve you!
