May 2022
Chicagoland Baptists,
“Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen” (Gal. 1:3-4). The racist motivated mass shooting in Buffalo last week and the shooting in Millennium Park right here in Chicago remind us again that this truly is an evil age. But God’s kingdom has broken into this present evil age! And we get to be a part of it, even while we keep praying “thy kingdom come” (Mt. 6:10).
If you’d like to join us for prayer tomorrow (5/18) from 9:00 – 9:30 AM, just click here (or dial 331-218-1983 | Conference ID: 844 262 125#).
Here is someone to know about – Pastor Nathan Carter. Nathan was converted when he was 7 surrounding the death of his baby sister, was called into ministry at age 15, came to Chicagoland from the cornfields of Indiana to attend Wheaton College in the late 90s, and has stuck around ever since. He holds a MA in Biblical Exegesis from Wheaton and a MA in Urban Ministry from TEDS. Next month he will celebrate 20 years of marriage to Andrea, who teaches math part-time at Roosevelt University and UIC. Together they have 5 daughters. Since 2004 he has been a pastor at a small, multi-ethnic church – Immanuel Baptist Church in the UIC Area of the city – where he has preached verse-by-verse through 32 books of the Bible, sued the city of Chicago in order to be able to buy a building, planted a couple churches that haven’t made it, and has gotten to share the gospel and his life with a lot of people as they’ve come through the city over the years.
Since 2019 Nathan has worked on the side for IBSA as a Zone Consultant, but starting June 1 he will transition to working a couple days a week for CMBA to try to revitalize our local association of Chicagoland Baptist churches. He looks forward to continued collaboration with state (IBSA) and national (NAMB) partners to strengthen and start healthy churches here, while re-establishing a strong Chicagoland connectedness and identity. Look for more details to come soon…
