As you know, there has been a major influx of migrants arriving in Chicago. While this presents many challenges, it also gives Chicagoland Baptists great opportunities to show hospitality and share the gospel.
If you would like to join a discussion with other pastors and ministry leaders about ways our churches could be involved, come to the Chicagoland Baptists building (1356 N. Rockwell) next Wednesday (5/17) at 9:00 AM. We’ll pray for 30 minutes and then brainstorm for 30 minutes. You can also join online via the weekly Zoom link (see below).
Here is someone to know about – Rick Dorsey.
Rick was raised on the Near West Side of Chicago in the 1960’s and became one of the first 100 students to integrate Roosevelt High School in Albany Park, traveling by public transportation for nearly two and a half hours every day! There he became the very first African-American class president elected at the school. He attended the University of Illinois at Chicago where he earned both a B.A. degree in Elementary Education and later an M.A. in educational administration. Rick taught at a couple different schools in the city and then became the first permanent Black principal at the elementary school he grew up attending. After 35 years, he retired from CPS in August of 2009.
Rick has been a disciple of Christ since his youth in Chicago. He has been a member of Beacon Hill Baptist Church in far South Suburban Chicago Heights, IL, for over forty years, and has served as the Pastor at The Hill since 2010. It was there that he met his wife of 43 years – Chicagoland Baptists’ Prayer Coordinator Cheryl Dorsey. Rick and Cheryl are longtime residents of Park Forest and have two adult sons – Joseph and Russell.
Rick has been active in the life of our local association for many years. He currently serves as the chair of the Administrative Council. He is so excited to see how God will continue to use Chicagoland Baptists to make a difference in reaching new generations of people across our region’s many ethnic groups with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
